EXTENSION FROM BALL OF DIRT TO
SHAREDBOOK WINS OPEN API CHALLENGE
Travel Site Builds Capability to Flow Text and Images from Online Journals
into SharedBook's Reverse Publishing Platform for On-demand Output
NEW YORK – November 29, 2007 – SharedBook Inc., the Reverse Publishing Platform provider, announced today that an extension built from Ball of Dirt, an online travel journal, to SharedBook has been selected as the winner of the SharedBook Open API Challenge. Once development is complete, the application will enable travelers to automatically flow online journal entries, photographs and other relevant images into a structured book product.
"We have a very active community of travelers on Ball of Dirt and many of our users have expressed an interest in preserving their travel journals in book format," said Gerald Speers, Chief Executive Officer, Ball of Dirt. "We are working with SharedBook's API to give our users that capability and are excited that our extension was awarded first prize in their Web development contest."
The SharedBook open application programming interface (API) enables developers to flow content from any Web site - archived materials, database content, photographs and user-generated content, among other items - into a structured book product that can be purchased immediately, or personalized further.
As with each of SharedBook's products, users can also invite others into their personal book making space to contribute additional stories and photographs if they choose. In Ball of Dirt's case, this could include fellow travelers.
Speers selected the $500 cash prize as the winner in the contest which closed Oct. 31. For more information regarding SharedBook's API, please go to http://www.sharedbook.com/dev.
