The Poky Little Puppy is the First in a Series of Internet-Enabled Books
NEW YORK – January 23, 2008 – SharedBook Inc., the Reverse Publishing Platform provider, announced today that it has reached an agreement with Random House, Inc. to give readers the ability to create personalized versions of their favorite books from the Internet. In celebration of the 65th anniversary of Golden Books, The Poky Little Puppy will be the first personalized book to be published in this new innovative format.
Published by Random House Children's Books, a division of Random House, Inc., The Poky Little Puppy is one of the 12 original Little Golden Books that were published in 1942. The Poky Little Puppy has sold over 16 million copies to date, making it one of the bestselling children's books of all time.
Utilizing SharedBook's Reverse Publishing Platform, consumers can now create a unique, personalized version of The Poky Little Puppy by using an online book-making template. Consumers can create their own version of The Poky Little Puppy complete with a custom dedication and also upload a personal photo to the front of the book. The book is then purchased and sent to the printer for on-demand output in laminated hardcover format.
"Giving the gift of a children's book is often a very personal and sentimental thing," said Rich Romano, Executive Vice President, Publishing Operations, Random House Children's Books. "This technology takes giving to a new level – allowing readers to put their own touch on a favorite book before sharing it with a child."
"Random House is embracing the use of technology to engage more closely with their readers," said Caroline Vanderlip, Chief Executive Officer, SharedBook Inc.
The price for a unique, personalized edition of The Poky Little Puppy is $25 in laminated hardcover format, which includes standard domestic shipping. Completed books arrive in 10-14 business days. Expedited shipping options are available for an additional charge.
