ACADEMICPUB EMBRACES ROLE AS "ONLINE ENABLER"
New York, NY, October 16, 2012 - AcademicPub™, the leading provider of custom books - print and digital - for the higher education market, today announced the creation of AcademicPub CustomLink™ (ACL), a move that demonstrates the unit of SharedBook Inc.'s full embrace of its role as an "online enabler" for traditional non-profit schools that are moving to increase their course offerings via the Internet.
The announcement was made by Caroline Vanderlip, CEO, SharedBook Inc.
"Online courses are designed to be flexible and to meet the demands of a wide range of learners," said Vanderlip. "Course materials are a key component of that flexibility, and we take very seriously our responsibility to provide the highest quality materials at the lowest price."
Vanderlip added: "More and more colleges and universities are realizing that AcademicPub is the ideal partner to help them accomplish their educational mission online. AcademicPub CustomLink - or ACL - will be the go-to team that propels us to be the best "online enabler" in the higher education community."
As an example of the kind of work that ACL will perform, Vanderlip cited a recently forged partnership with Simon Fraser University's (SFU) Center for Online and Distance Education (CODE) that will result in nearly 100 CODE classes utilizing course materials provided by AcademicPub this Spring.
"We are proud to have gained the trust and confidence of SFU leadership, especially those who are responsible for designing courses in its CODE program," said Vanderlip. "They have put in place a rigorous online course of study that leverages the course materials to affect the best possible outcomes. Our provision of materials for some CODE courses this past summer, and the positive results of that test, paved the way for a broader relationship with SFU and spurred us to create ACL to serve the many other traditional schools seeking to expand their online class offerings."
Instructors who teach at one of SFU's three physical campuses, or in CODE, can create the materials for their classes from four sources - the vast AcademicPub Content Library (which now houses more than 5 million easy-to-use pieces of content), third party content, the Web and their own work product.
The AcademicPub platform allows an instructor to assemble his book from these multiple sources. Once the content is assembled, one keystroke by the professor creates high-quality course materials at a fraction of textbook prices. The student then has the choice of delivery options, as either an eBook or as a professionally manufactured and printed book.
AcademicPub, SharedBook Inc's technology platform for higher education, assembles, composes, prices and delivers custom textbooks - in eBook and/or print format. AcademicPub allows for immediate creation and inclusion of copyright-cleared content from anywhere, such as web articles, self-generated lectures or from the AcademicPub Content Library. Digital or print distribution generates a fast and easy way for educators to provide an engaging educational experience, with lower prices and up-to-the-minute materials for students. More information and free registration for faculty is available at www.academicpub.com. Headquartered in New York since 2004, SharedBook Inc. is privately held and can be found at www.sharedbook.com.
