MOMENTUM BUILDS FOR ACADEMICPUB™
Five Additional Top-Notch Publishers to Provide Content for Platform
NEW YORK, May 25, 2011 - AcademicPub, the
higher education unit of SharedBook Inc., today announced the addition
of five top publishers to its content Library, bringing to 26 the number
of publishing partners, and running to close to 200,000 the current
total of content units in the AcademicPub Library. The announcement was
made by Caroline Vanderlip, CEO, SharedBook Inc., at BookExpo America
(BEA), the leading annual North American publishing event.
Ashgate Publishing, Business Expert Press, Peter Lang Publishing/USA,
Rand Corporation, and the Royal Society of Chemistry are the five new
partners for AcademicPub, which launched on April 14, 2011 and has
already attracted widespread interest from professors and administrators
on campuses across the United States.
"The AcademicPub Library is one of three key components comprising the
service that we provide to instructors in higher education, with the
others being the web and the faculty member's own work product," said
Vanderlip. "But there is no doubt that the Library is the ballast to our
academic ship, as the high-quality materials we receive from partners
draw attention to our service short-term and give us the substance we
need to flourish long-term."
Created specifically for educators, AcademicPub allows instructors to
assemble custom books in real time, with copyright clearance and pricing
at the click of a mouse, and choice of delivery options as either
eBooks or professionally manufactured books. Faculty members can meet
both the demands of their institutions and of their students, as they
can build "best of" books in electronic or print format, with costs to
the end-user dramatically lower than a typical hard-cover textbook.
Reflecting AcademicPub's desire to provide the very best content across a
broad array of disciplines, the SharedBook Inc. unit's new publishing
partners consist of:
Ashgate Publishing, a United Kingdom-based independent press dedicated
to publishing the finest academic materials in the humanities and social
sciences;
Business Expert Press, a comprehensive resource for business education with applied, concise books by experts for non-experts;
Peter Lang Publishing/USA, the North American division of the Peter Lang
International Publishing Group, which specializes in the publication of
advanced textbooks in education, media and communication, and Black
studies for classroom use, as well as monographs in the humanities and
social sciences;
Rand Corporation, a nonprofit institution that conducts research and analysis in numerous disciplines; and
Royal Society of Chemistry, the largest organization in Europe for advancing the chemical sciences;
These publishers join 21 previously announced partners in the
AcademicPub Library, bringing the current total of publishing partners
to 26 entities, plus various individual textbook authors.
