Introducing the SharedBook Open API

SharedBook now has an Open API (Application Programming Interface). Now anyone can write a program that will transfer data to the SharedBook platform and utilize our full functionality to create revenue-producing books, both online and off.

Why would I do that?

To create another way to monetize your proprietary content or the user-generated content you already capture on your Web site. Now, you can easily build an application that will collect content from your site and flow it into the SharedBook reverse publishing platform for inclusion by users into branded book products. You have control of what data you push into the system and the level of control you give to your users. The output is a professionally printed book or a viral flipbook that will generate revenue as well as create awareness for your Brand with its pass along value.

So, this isn't like other APIs, is it?

Yes and No. It's exactly like other APIs in that you register, and we give you documentation to work with. It's different in that, instead of writing an interface to extract data from us, you'll be creating a new way to introduce data into our private and secure* book creation system.

Ok - Why would I do that?

To provide your users with a way to memorialize their postings while you expand your revenue stream. What consumer valuable information do you or your users or customers keep on your site?

• Maybe you are a travel agent and keep a database of all the itineraries traveled by a couple in a year. Maybe you keep great professional photos of these destinations. Wouldn't this be a great start to a user's personalized travel book?
• Maybe you have a rich database of forum postings on a range of topics. As any forum moderator will tell you, the same questions are asked and become difficult to find over time. What if your users could create a mini-guide of the topic, with all the best advice, along with their personal take on the topic?
